A West Virginia University School of Dentistry graduate, Dr. Shumate attends extensive postdoctoral studies in clinical dentistry, focusing on cosmetic, implant, and family dentistry. He has presented research across the country, receiving recognition from the Hinman Dental Society and The American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology. Dr. Shumate is continually taking the advanced education curriculum at the prestigious Kois Institute in Seattle. Dr. Shumate enjoys blending the art and science of dentistry to improve his patients’ smiles in his state-of-the-art Wilmington, NC, office.

Jennifer Shumate
Office Manager
Jennifer grew up in Texas and West Virginia, where she attended high school and met Dr. Shumate. She graduated from West Virginia University with a bachelor’s degree in Child Development and Family Studies. She went on to get her Master’s degree in Elementary Education. Jennifer is the office administrator and works hard to ensure your experience is memorable. Jennifer enjoys kayaking, paddle boarding, going to the beach, spending time with her family, and reading when she gets the chance.
Abby
Front Office Administrator
Abby is a native of Scotts Hill, NC. She is a graduate of Coastal Carolina Community College and has been a part of our team for ten years. Abby strives to make sure each patient leaves with an exceptional experience to share with their friends and family. She is devoted to our patients and finds joy in advocating for them. Abby enjoys painting and crafting; however, you may find her at an auction or thrift store on a Saturday. She is a proud “cat-mama” to Flounder and Finn.
Christina
New Patient Coordinator
Christina was born and raised in Scotts Hill, NC. She is a graduate of Cape Fear Community College. Christina has been with us since 2016 and is here to welcome all of our guests with a friendly smile. In her spare time, she loves raising animals on her 10-acre farm. She also enjoys making jewelry, crafting, and deep-sea fishing.
Katie
Dental Hygienist
Katie is originally from South Carolina. She graduated from Florence-Darlington Tech in 2021 with an associate’s degree in Dental Hygiene and joined our team in 2023. Katie enjoys reading books and spending time with her husband, Dickson, and their three dogs, Raven, Simba, and Daisy.
Lindsey
Dental Hygienist
Lindsey is from Tennessee. She graduated from Coastal Carolina Community College in 2006 with a degree in Dental Hygiene and joined our team in 2024. Lindsey and her husband, Bill, have three wonderful children at home. In her free time, Lindsey enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with her family.
Teana
Dental Assistant
Teana was born and raised in Wilmington, NC. She graduated from Miller-Motte College with her degree in Dental Assisting. Teana enjoys spending time with her daughter and dog. She also likes to fish and travel in her free time. Teana strives to be the best that she can be. “Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.”
Krystal
Dental Assistant
Krystal, a native of Wilmington, NC, earned her Dental Assisting degree from Cape Fear Community College in 2013. She now resides in Hampstead with her husband, Steven, and their yellow lab, Beau. Her hobbies include traveling, boating, fishing, and drag racing, which she enjoys with family and friends on the weekend.
